ZPC Hwange dropped crucial points which buried their slim hopes of clinching the Southern Region Division One Soccer title as they drew 0-0 against Casmyn at Turk Mine on Saturday.

The result left leaders Bulawayo Chiefs, who take on Makomo at Hartsfield Ground in Bulawayo tomorrow, needing just three points to secure the Premiership ticket.

By drawing against Casmyn, ZPC Hwange took their points tally to 42 with five games left. This means the electricity generators can only end the season with 57 points in the event that they win all their five games.

On the other hand, Chiefs, who are on 53 points, are set to get three points on a 3-0 scoreline for the return fixture against Victoria Falls Tigers who were kicked out of the league for missing three matches and failing to pay their affiliation fees.

A victory against Makomo, one of the two teams to have collected a point against Chiefs this season, will see the latter technically claiming the title but they will wait to have the Victoria Falls Tigers points credited into their account.

“All the teams that are set to play Victoria Falls Tigers who were suspended from the league will be given three points on a 3-0 scoreline. This is because Victoria Falls Tigers played all their first leg games and were only suspended in the second half,” explained Zifa Southern Region board member Tumediso Mokoena Ndlovu.

Should Chiefs beat Makomo tomorrow, they will become the second side after Herentials who compete in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League to win promotion into the topflight.

Meanwhile, Indlovu Iyanyathela bounced back to winning ways as they beat ZRP Bulawayo 2-0 at Fairbridge.

Indlovu Iyanyathela went into the weekend game smarting from a 3-1 home defeat to Chiefs and turned on the heat to trample on ZRP Bulawayo courtesy of goals from Thulani Mazvizvi and Tafadzwa Dhliwayo.

ZRP Bulawayo who beat Bosso 90 1-0 before taking on Indlovu Iyanyathela failed to replicate their last performance against the army side.

Zim Leopards moved a place up the table to position seven as they emerged 2-0 victorious in the Iminyela derby against Chiwororo.
