ZPC Hwange out to delay Chiefs’ coronation
Ricky Zililo, Senior Sports Reporter
PERENNIAL Southern Region Division One Soccer League campaigners ZPC Hwange will be out to delay Bulawayo Chiefs’ crowning as champions when they take on Casmyn at Turk Mine this afternoon.
Chiefs, whose match against Makomo has been rescheduled for Wednesday after the latter indicated their players are today involved in their company’s activities, technically need four points to win the title.
They top the table with 53 points from 19 games and will be given three points for the game against expelled Victoria Falls Tigers who were booted out of the league for failing to pay their affiliation fees.
ZPC Hwange coach Njabulo “Jaza” Dube is on record saying their aim is to push the title race longer so that they have an exciting end to the season.
Should ZPC Hwange lose to Dazzy Kapenya- coached Casmyn this afternoon, Chiefs will secure their Premiership ticket on Wednesday when they play Makomo.
Dube has long conceded that the title chase is no longer in their hands, but refuses to throw in the towel: “It’s unfortunate that we are not where we want to be (at the top), but what is important is for us to keep pushing and take the title race to the wire. We just have to keep on working hard.”
ZPC Hwange head to Casmyn smarting from a shock 0-1 away loss to Amagagasi.
The electricity generators will bank on seasoned striker Qinani Sibanda who has scored seven goals in four matches for ZPC Hwange, goalkeeper Harmon Nare, skipper Israel Mukahanana, Mlungisi Ndlovu and ex-Chiefs attacking midfielder Desire Shumbanhete.
Casmyn will look on wingback Webster Kondowe, captain Charles Murusha, ex-Black Boots holding midfielder Golden Kamanga, striker Brian Muza and attacking midfielder Wellington Sinyolo to lead them against ZPC Hwange.
Meanwhile, uniformed forces sides, police outfit ZRP Bulawayo and army bankrolled Indlovu Iyanyathela square off at Fairbridge while the Iminyela derby pitting Zim Leopards and Chiwororo is on this afternoon at Raylton Sports Club.
