THIS Saturday, the grounds of Eveline Girls High School in Bulawayo will come alive with the spirit of reunion as alumni, staff, learners, parents, and friends gather for the, “Eveline Old Girls Homecoming: A celebration of legacy and vision" event.
This momentous occasion will be more than just a gathering; it will be a heartfelt tribute to the rich history of one of Bulawayo’s oldest and most prestigious educational institutions.
Established in 1910, Eveline Girls High School has been a beacon of excellence, nurturing generations of leaders who have excelled in various fields across the globe.
Notable products of the institution are Bathabile Dlamini, gospel musician Thandiwe Tanewe, social media personality Mai Tt, and media personality Mbonisi "Mbo Mahocs" Mahonondo.
Event coordinator Thabani Moyo expressed the significance of this event, stating, “This momentous event will bring together alumni, staff, learners, parents, and friends to celebrate the rich legacy of Eveline. The theme for this year, ‘Celebrating the Legacy of Eveline and shaping future leaders’, underscores the school’s commitment to fostering excellence while addressing the challenges that lie ahead,” Moyo said.
He said the event promises a line-up of engaging activities that reflect the school’s vibrant community.
Attendees can look forward to an inspiring keynote address featuring distinguished guests, including the esteemed Georgina Musekiwa, who will share insights on the school’s current projects and funding needs. Moreover, alumni will take the stage to share heartfelt reflections, recounting how their time at Eveline has influenced their lives and contributions to society. This element, Moyo said, is crucial, as it emphasises the collective responsibility of the alumni to plough back into the very institutions that shaped their futures.
A significant aspect of this celebration will be the fundraising drive, aimed at securing vital resources for the school' s future. Proceeds will support critical projects, including drilling boreholes, revitalising the swimming pool, securing sports fields, maintaining school buildings, and upgrading transport facilities.
Entertainment will abound, with live performances from the Eveline High choir, traditional and modern dances, and dramatic poetry that will bring to life, the school’s rich cultural tapestry.
Moyo emphasised the importance of this initiative, urging the community to come together: "We call upon the Eveline alumni and the Bulawayo business community to support this event and join hands in securing Eveline’s future. It is through such collective efforts that the legacy of Eveline can be preserved and strengthened for future generations. "
This family-friendly event will open its doors to everyone, offering free entry for children and a host of fun activities designed to keep the younger attendees entertained.
It will be a perfect opportunity for families to bond and for alumni to reconnect with their roots, all while contributing to a noble cause.
