ALL is set for United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean dancehall/reggae DJ Kivo Santana’s welcome gig taking place tonight at the Golden Mile Hotel in Kwekwe.

Born Cornelius Kelvin Makanza, DJ Kivo will be making an emotional return to his place of birth after having thrilled fans at a New Year’s eve gig at the same venue last year.

The gig will also feature Zimdancehall artistes from the Midlands province and DJs from Harare including ZiJudgement Yard’s 2 Bad and Abisha Palmer. They will be supported by resident DJs Brian and Silver.

King Solomon’s Hotel entertainment and events manager Brian ‘DJ Brian’ Wadesango said all was in place for the show.

“We’re ready for the homecoming gig of our brother Kivo Santana. It’s a show we took time preparing for and we’re happy it’s about to happen. He’s our homeboy and the people of Kwekwe are certainly ready to welcome him home,” DJ Brian said.

Kivo, who arrived in the country yesterday, said: “I’m thrilled to be giving back to my hometown of Kwekwe through this gig. I can’t wait to reunite with the people there.”

He said this homecoming gig was a great opportunity for him to network and interface with Zimdancehall artistes from the Midlands whom he promotes in the UK.

“I work with a lot of these artistes when I’m in the UK as I play their music there, trying to promote them. I’ve also organised some shows for them there so meeting them at their base is special,” said Kivo.

Kivo Santana, who has worked with the likes of Freeman, Delroy and Kilaman, has also played alongside international wheelspinners like DJ Chris Goldfinger.
