CULTURAL centre Amagugu International Heritage Centre last week commissioned a $10 000 solar powered electricity supply system that will enable artistes to entertain guests at night.

The commissioning in Matopos last week also saw the handing over of a 5 000 litre water tank to the centre’s director Pathisa Nyathi. The whole project was funded by the Rotary Club of Bulawayo South.

The provision of electricity is a bonus for artistes as they will now be able to entertain guests at Amagugu well into the night. Previously, entertainment would end at dusk.

Thanking the Rotary Club of Bulawayo South for their kind gesture especially considering that the centre had no electricity since its establishment, Nyathi said: “The two investments are set to improve the experiences of our guests.

With power supply, we’ll, from 2019 be expanding our programming into the night by hosting storytelling sessions, targeting particularly visitors coming for camping.

“Stable water supply is also important for the hygiene of our guests,” said Nyathi.

The water tank will help supply clean water for the facility as a way to augment the water supply in the form of a borehole that is a kilometre away.

Using rain harvesting, the tank will store water to be used in the toilets of the facility.

Handing over the system, Rotary Club of Bulawayo South president Alvord Mabhena said as an organisation, they were seized with helping the community.

“Nyathi came to us and asked for our help to set up this system. We sourced the funds to complete the project from friends and members. There were people who were busy working on the system for some time now.

“After all is said and done, now the project is the responsibility of Amagugu,” said Mabhena.

The community through their village head Effa Ndlovu welcomed the solar and water supply system saying it was a plus for people who use Amagugu.
