TOP amateur boxers are set to exchange blows at the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) National Championships Boxing tournament at Chegutu Gardens today.

The country’s amateur boxers will be vying for the championship in two categories, which include Youth Boxers (17-18 years) and Elite Boxers (19-40 years).

Stephen Masiyambumbi, ZBF technical director, said the competition is one step the federation is taking towards building a team that will represent Zimbabwe in the African Union (AU) Games in Botswana in December.

“We call upon boxing fans to come and watch some of the finest talent the country has to offer. We are expecting some very competitive bouts, as we are using this tournament to scout for talent that will represent the country in the AU Games to be held in Botswana. We are expecting over 100 boxers to take part and this is a good opportunity for us to start preparing in time,” said Masiyambumbi.

He said the second national tournament will be held in Bulawayo on November 3 at Sizinda South Beer Garden.
