Mr Mafios Makombe (51), of 333 Spitzkop North in Gwanda, who appeared to be still in severe pain and gave his evidence while seated, told Gwanda magistrate Ms Sheila Nazombe that the assault  was so severe and he feared he might not be able to walk properly again.

Mr Makombe, still walking with the aid of crutches with a plastered left leg, said this during the appearance in court of his rival suitor Sikhumbuzo Moyo (40), of 3067 Spitzkop North, who pleaded guilty to the assault charges and was remanded out of custody to today for judgment and sentence.

Mr Makombe told the court that he was hospitalised for two weeks after the assault and that he received 30 stitches on his left knee.

“I was hospitalised for two weeks during which period I received 30 stitches on my knee, which is still swollen. I incurred $4 000 hospital bills during my stay in hospital including other medical expenses. I am feeling so much pain and I know that I will not recover fully and be able to walk properly again. This has drawn back progress in my life,” he said.

The physiotherapist has since been given an indefinite sick leave at his work place.

Mr Makombe urged the magistrate to consider a two-year imprisonment sentence for his rival suitor Moyo should he fail to restitute him for the expenses he incurred during treatment.

However, Ms Nazombe cautioned Mr Makombe about his behaviour in future lest he “lose both legs”.

“You should change your ways because you will lose both legs and its something you cannot tell your children,” she said.

The court heard that on 1 December last year, at about 4am, Mr Makombe was allegedly caught red handed while being intimate with Ms Abigail Brown  who is also Moyo’s girlfriend.

Moyo who could not stomach this, severely assaulted Mr Makombe resulting in him fracturing his left leg.

Mr Pernson Chekeya prosecuted.
