Beitbridge robbery trio in jail awaiting trial

POLICE in Matabeleland South have arrested three suspected robbers for attacking and robbing a motorist in Dulivhadzimu suburb, Beitbridge.

Tatenda Gumbo (20), Tawanda Sibanda (29) addresses not given and Tichaona Mafuka (38) of 1894 Dulivhadzimu suburb are in custody pending trial.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 10PM.

Matabeleland Police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the arrest of the trio.

“Three suspected robbers are in police custody for allegedly attacking Brian Chinhamo (40) of 1598 Dulivhadzimu suburb. They took away cash and cellphones before they disappeared,” said Insp Mangena.

According to police, on Saturday night Mr Chinhamo parked his car at a car park before he was approached by three men who were armed with an okapi knife and a machete.

“The trio ordered the complainant to surrender his valuable property and cash before threatening to kill him. The accused persons took away a Huawei Y7 and R300 cash. The suspects continued assaulting the complainant with open hands before they disappeared,” said Insp Ncube.

A police report was made leading to the arrest of the three.

Insp Mangena said after the arrest it was later discovered that the trio had earlier committed the same offence at ‘Open Space’ Felandawonye near Dulivhadzimu rank at around 5PM.

“The three approached Benevolence Blessing David of 3565 Felandawonye, a male adult who was praying at a shrine before hitting him with a blunt side of an axe. They took away a Lenovo tablet valued at R1200.The complainant did not sustain any visible or serious injuries,” said Insp Mangena.

Insp Mangena said anyone who is found on the wrong side of the law will be arrested.

“As police we are urging members of the public that we are firm on the ground and anybody found on the wrong side of law will be arrested and we will let the law take its course,” said Insp Mangena.-@waydenaido.
