THE 2025 Matabeleland Amateur which is set to tee off at Bulawayo Country Club tomorrow will be the biggest and most talented field thus far with a full complement of Zimbabwe national teams taking part.
The juniors set to represent the country in Tunisia for the All Africa Juniors as well as the national teams going to Botswana for Region Five games will take to the greens at Bulawayo Country Club. The tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
Top players like Tanaka Chatora, Keegan Shutt, Kelvin Muchenje, Michael Wallace, Tracy Humbira, and Batsirai Tilowakuti among others will battle it out. However, the defending champion Vincent Chidambazina will not make it as he is preparing for his A ‘Level examinations.
There are 39 entries for the championship division (54 holes) and 36 players for the nett division. Of the 39 entries in the championship division where a winner will emerge, nine are women.
“Preparations started way back with Bulawayo Country Club management preparing the course immaculately well after the heavy rains in the past. The course is ready and it should encourage players to shoot under-par. From the admin side, everything has gone well and we are ready for the event.
“The massive field is what we want to have every time as it calls for us golf administrators to up our game. It excites us, we aim for nothing other than a successful event,” said Matabeleland Golf Association president, Vincent Makamure.
The first tee for round one is at 06.30am off the first tee.
