POOL administrator Osbornewells Dziko has been left convinced that loads of talent remains untapped in remote Binga.

Dziko serves as the Bulawayo Provincial Pool Association (BPPA) marketing and publicity officer.

Following a tournament held at Binga centre’s Gizaman Bottlestore last weekend, Dziko could not believe the amount of talent he saw on exhibition.

He has since made it his mandate to improve the standards of the game in the area.

“The sport is still at developing stages in the area.

It’s not as backward as people paint it out to be.

They are willing to learn on how we run a professional pool here in Bulawayo.

The people there understand the rules and know how to play the game,” said Dziko.

“They need sponsorship and a committed administration to run the sport.

Proper administration will see a big growth for the sport. We want to have people from Binga joining national competitions.

“Credit must go to Tawanda Mupenzwa of Queens Pool Academy and Wisdom Munenge, the media manager for Queens.

These are the guys that have exposed us to this talent in Binga,” he added.

The Binga competition, which had 22 participants, was won by Munashe Maponda with Blessing Nkatazo getting second place.

Dziko also hailed Delta Beverages for hosting a successful national tournament, The Carling Black Label National Pool championships, last month.

Pearson Nyasha and Someya Mlauzi were crowned champions of the competition.

Nyasha, who plays at Club 75 and is under Black Rhinos, beat Munashe Dombojena 5-3 to win the $700 000 and a pool table first prize in the men’s section.

For his second place finish Dombojena walked away $350 000 richer while third-placed player Hillary Mukumure pocketed $200 000. Steven Mazuve went home $100 000 richer for coming fourth.

The women’s title was won by Someya Mlauzi who hails from Kwekwe and she was also happy with the win and will look forward to playing in more tournaments.
