Black Umfolosi billed for Plumtree charity show Black Umfolosi

INTERNATIONALLY-acclaimed Bulawayo imbube group, Black Umfolosi, will tomorrow headline a fundraising gig in Plumtree with the hope of raising about $25 000 needed for a young boy to undergo a kidney transplant in India.

The fundraising gig is being hosted at Chicken La King Pub and Restaurant. Youths from the border town, who organised the gig, said Hloniphani Mathiya (16) had not been feeling well for some time because of a kidney ailment. Supporting the cause is a Plumtree resident who has offered to give Mathiya one of his kidneys and is set to travel to India for the operation.

Chicken La King Pub proprietor and Plumtree Town Council chairperson, Fanisani Dube, said all the proceeds of the fundraising gig would go towards Mathiya and the donor’s travel, accommodation and medical expenses.

He said he had to single-handedly foot the bill for Black Umfolosi’s performance at his joint as a way of contributing to Mathiya’s cause.

“Chicken King is sponsoring the event by way of providing a venue, paying the artistes, providing the artistes with refreshments and other needs.

The fundraising event is expected to kick off at 5PM with an entrance fee of $5.—@richardmuponde
