Blunt DeMbare attack worries Genesis

UNDERFIRE Dynamos coach, Genesis Mangombe is a worried man.
His job at DeMbare is not safe, but since he is still at the helm, he still has to find a solution to his team’s goalscoring problems.
Mangombe admits he is worried about his team’s failure to score goals ahead of the start of their Caf Confederation Cup journey early next month.
The Glamour Boys will play Zesco United of Zambia in the preliminary round.
Due to the unavailability of local stadia, DeMbare will play their home leg at the Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana.
Ahead of the Zesco test, Mangombe says he is having sleepless nights over his blunt strikeforce.
“We are still crying about the same problem. l thought it was going to be much better if we had signed a striker in the mid-season window, but we failed to do that. We now have to work on the players we have and try to psyche them up because some of the chances that we are missing are not normal in a game of football. Players are failing to score on an empty net. So, at times, we need a finisher in front of the goal. Someone hungry. The failure to score is worrying me ahead of the Caf competition. We have to try and see how best we can do it. Maybe we have to apply a system with natural strikers at the top and use two strikers,” said Mangombe.
Asked if he had provided his wish list to the DeMbare leadership, Mangombe said: “Of Course, but it’s now water under the bridge. We failed to get a striker and we have to work with what is there.”
The Dynamos leadership also needs to be put to task over why they have continuously failed to give the coaches the players he wants.
Ahead of 2024, Mangombe presented a wish list that included the 2022 Soccer Star of the Year, Walter Musona, high-flying former Bulawayo Chiefs stars Mthokozisi Msebe and Obriel Chirinda and ex-Warriors star Khama Billiat, but they got none of the players.
The former Yadah mentor also called for DeMbare to keep young midfielder, Junior Makunike, but he moved to Simba Bhora and the club seems to have up to now failed to find a proper replacement.
Meanwhile, Ngezi Platinum Stars will represent the country in the CAF Champions League. They face the DR Congo side AS Maniema and have already settled for the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia.
