BULAWAYO Chiefs will today conduct trials at Raylton Sports Club in a bid to bolster their squad ahead of the 2019 soccer season which kicks off in March.

Amakhosi Amahle, as Chiefs is popularly known, endured a torrid season last year where they survived a tight relegation battle by a whisker to finish 12th on the table with 41 points, five above the drop zone.

From 34 premier league matches, Amakhosi registered 10 wins, 11 draws and lost 13 games. Along the way they earned themselves the “Giant Killers” tag after claiming the scalps of Ngezi Platinum, FC Platinum and Highlanders.

Bulawayo Chiefs technical analyst Thulani Sibanda said the club is hoping to beef up its squad ahead of the season kick off.

“The club will be conducting an open trial session tomorrow (today) as we are aiming at beefing up our team before the season kicks off. As Bulawayo is popularly known to be a soccer hub, we call upon players to come in their numbers and try their luck with us. Right now the club does not have enough funds to buy already known players that is why we have opted for an open trial session,” said Sibanda.

Having parted ways with attacking midfielder Perfect Chikwende who joined FC Platinum and Andrew Thandi who joined Black Rhinos, Chiefs are hoping to build a much stronger side and improve their chances of finishing in a more decent position in the coming season.

“I believe we have learnt some lessons from our previous experiences in the premier league but what I can say is that we now know the ropes better than we did last season,” said Sibanda.

Chiefs was promoted to the top flight league in 2017 after clinching the Zifa Southern Region Soccer League title.
