POLICE in Bulawayo police have arrested Tatenda Chida (26) in connection with the murder of Sikhanyiso Bruce Dube (30) from Pumula North.
The arrest follows a disturbing incident that occurred on October 22, 2024, during a seemingly innocuous gathering at a local butchery.
According to Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the two men were braaing meat when a disagreement broke out after Dube inadvertently touched Chida’s food.
Witnesses say the situation escalated quickly, with Chida allegedly kicking Dube in the spinal cord and striking him in the face. Dube was assisted by friends and managed to leave the scene; however, he was later found dead under a tree near Pumula High School on October 24.
A passerby initially mistook Dube for being intoxicated, but upon closer inspection, he discovered the man was unresponsive and alerted authorities.
An autopsy revealed that Dube had suffered severe head injuries and brain trauma, confirming the cause of death as homicide.
Chida was located and arrested on November 10 at the intersection of JMN Nkomo Street and 4th Avenue. He has confessed to the assault and remains in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
The police urge the community to resolve disputes peacefully to prevent further violence and loss of life.
