Busy week in Victoria Falls President Mnangagwa

VICTORIA Falls will be a hive of activity this week as the resort city hosts two high level international conferences.

President Mnangagwa is expected to officiate at the 10th Ordinary Session of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Plenipotentiary conference on Friday while Vice President Costantino Chiwenga will be guest of honour at the Continental Celebration of the 2021 African Public Service Day today.

Both conferences start today.

The PAPU event where Zimbabwe’s postal industry leader, Mr Sifundo Chief Moyo, the country’s candidate for the prestigious secretary general position is expected to land the post, will run until Friday at Kingdom Hotel.

The convention will be preceded by the 39th ordinary session of the Administrative Council of the PAPU that runs from today to Wednesday.

Delegates comprising locals and international guests have started arriving for both events.

The town was by yesterday decorated as various organisations and companies displayed their brands.

Locals, especially informal traders and businesses, also expect to cash in on the busy week.

The continental Public Service Day conference will end on Thursday at Elephant Hills Resort under the theme: Building the Africa we want, through embracing an ethical culture that underpins purpose driven leadership in the Context of a Crisis.”

It is a gathering of African Ministers responsible for Labour, Public Service and Administration on the continent.

Ambassador Osman Keh Kamara who is representative of the African Union Commission will also attend.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima, Ambassador Kamara, Mr Deogratius John Ndejembi the Deputy Minister of Public Service Management and Good Governance of Tanzania who is also the chairperson of the AU-STC8 Sub Committee on Public Service and Administration and Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo will addresss the conference.

There will be discussions around a number of topics with high level panellists from the continent.

On Monday there will be a discussion on “Building the Africa We Want through embracing an ethical culture that underpins purpose driven leadership in the Context of a Crisis” and another one on “Embracing Cultural diversity as a lever to strengthen institutions for a responsive and ethical public administration.”

On Tuesday there will be sessions on: “Deploying technology to sustain and enhance service delivery in the face of this challenging Covid-19 pandemic climate” and “Achieve inclusivity through harnessing Arts and culture as instruments to inform, market and build demand side capacity for effective and efficient service delivery” before delegates sample various tour activities around town.

Wednesday will see delegates discussion about “Celebrating contribution of the Public servant: a story of courage and resilience in the management of the Covid-19 Pandemic” before a special Ministerial session for African Ministers responsible for Labour, Public and Civil Services. — @ncubeleon
