Byo athletics finish second

HOSTS Bulawayo finished second in the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) National Championships held at White City Stadium on Saturday.

Harare province claimed first place with seven gold medals, 10 silver and two bronze medals.
Bulawayo hauled seven gold medals, five silver and nine bronze medals.
Matabeleland South claimed third place after attaining four gold, one silver and two bronze.
There were 54 races on the cards, with all the country’s provinces converging for the meet.
Ten star events, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 10 000m, long jump, high jump, javelin and shotput, for both men and women were sponsored by J M Busha 54 races.
The championships were used to select athletes to represent Zimbabwe in the upcoming World Junior Championships, World Senior Championships and the Africa Senior Championships.
It was also the final selection process for the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Games that will be held in Malawi in December.
Bulawayo-based sprinter Denzel Siasimulela has already qualified for the World Junior Championships that will be held in Cali, Colombia, in August.
He sealed his qualification at a competition in Zambia where he sprinted the 200m race in 20.95 seconds.
The 18-year-old short distance runner has previously represented the country in various international competitions.
