THE Confederation of African Football (Caf) has opened formal investigations into allegations of match-fixing raised by Zifa ahead of the Warriors’ back-to-back qualifiers of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Swaziland.

Zifa raised the red flag after a whistleblower provided damning information implicating axed executive committee member Edzai Kasinauyo, former chief executive officer Henrietta Rushwaya, former national team coach Ian Gorowa and fired Warriors’ assistant coach Nation Dube in allegedly working on manipulating the results.

In a letter addressed to Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze, Caf general secretary Hicham El Amrani requested the national association to provide all documentation and elements relating to the allegations.

“Seeing that the matches relate in the framework of competitions organised by Caf, Caf hereby informs you that we are opening a formal investigation in this regard. Hence and in order to complete a thorough investigation, Caf kindly request your good office to provide us with all documents and elements in your possession that are related to this case,” El Amrani wrote in his letter dated March 23.

He said they were likely to hold a meeting either in Cairo, Egypt, or somewhere to further explore the Zifa case.

“We will also further hold a meeting in Cairo or elsewhere to further explore the case and ensure that all facts are clearly established,” wrote El Amrani.
