FOR Camron Mpofu, who recently signed for Manchester United, his future in international football lies with either Scotland or Zimbabwe. There has been excitement over his latest move. Mpofu, born in Scotland to a Zimbabwean father and mother, is of Scottish origin and that is what has got the local football fraternity talking.
Mpofu has represented both England and Scotland at the youth level. The highly-rated striker was raised in England and at one time represented England in their youth sides. It was only recently that he switched to Scotland. He was called up by the Three Lions for a training camp earlier in the year. However, in April, he made his debut for Scotland U15s against Spain and Hong Kong. Now he has caught the eye of United’s academy scouts and will join the Red Devils’ Under-16s side.
Mpofu said on social media: “I’m proud to officially announce my signing for Manchester United. “I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey so far, especially my family as well as the coaches and staff at Reading. The hard work continues.” Mpofu also played for the Real Fife youth team before moving south to Berkshire. He then signed for Reading after a six-week trial and has successfully gone through the ranks at the English League One side.
United are said to have beaten off competition from a number of clubs to land Mpofu’s signature. He joins United after spending three years at Reading. Mpofu is eligible to play for either Scotland or Zimbabwe national team in the future.—@innocentskizoe
