Innscor Africa appliance manufacturing division, Capri said on Friday it is targeting to increase exports of refrigerators to include all countries in the Southern African region. Capri marketing manager Antonio Simoes told New Ziana that though the company enjoyed servicing the local market, it was also eyeing expansion into the region.

“Given the current economic environment Zimbabwe is in, a lot of our focus is on increasing exports,” he said. Simoes said at the moment, Capri was exporting refrigerators to Zambia and Malawi.

“We will soon be in Mozambique. We also have deals to be finalised with Botswana,” he said. Last year, Capri commissioned a new plant that saw production capacity leaping from 5,000 to 18,000 refrigerators per month.

The new equipment enables the company Capri to do a complete redesign of refrigerators.

The new fridge making technology also replaces the old outside the fridge condenser with one which uses a smaller compressor, thereby introducing direct cooling and lower energy consumption.

Simoes said the new refrigerators had become a hit with local retailers.

“The refrigerators have been on the market since the beginning of August last year. They’re doing well, retailers are very impressed.

“The market has taken them on because of additional features they have like the internal parts and we have received so much positive feedback,” he said. — New Ziana
