ZANU-PF political commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, has appealed to the electorate to vote in large numbers for the ruling party in the February 3 by-elections and bury the opposition formations which he said had nothing to offer.

Addressing a Press conference after meeting the party’s Midlands provincial team that is campaigning for the party’s Mkoba North constituency aspiring candidate, Cde Edgar Ncube, Cde Bimha said the party supporters must come in their numbers to vote for Cde Ncube.

“We would like to appeal to our party members to come in their numbers on February 3 and vote for the party and our candidate for Mkoba North Cde Ncube,” said Cde Bimha. 

He said the trend across the country has been that people don’t take by-elections seriously hence the low voter turnout.

“We want to change this hence we are calling on all our registered voters in Mkoba North to all come and vote for Cde Ncube so that he wins resoundingly. I would like to appeal to our Women’s League, Youth League and War Veterans to continue to give support to our provincial teams,” he said.

Cde Bimha said since the announcement of February 3 by-election date, the party went into full gear to prepare for the campaigns and challenged the provincial structures throughout the country to play their part.

By-elections are being held in six constituencies which are Pelandaba-Tshabalala constituency in Bulawayo, Mkoba North in the Midlands, Chegutu West and Zvimba East in Mashonaland West while in Mashonaland East by-elections will be in Seke and Goromonzi South. The seats were declared vacant following recalls by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu. 

“When we were campaigning during preparations for the harmonised elections, we thought we would take a rest but little did we know that we would be back on the ground and get our teams to work again,” said Cde Bimha.

He said with every election, Zanu-PF was becoming stronger and stronger.

“We have noticed that when we had the elections last year, our performance improved and that is a confirmation by the electorate that Zanu-PF is delivering on its promises.”
