A WOMAN allegedly teamed up with three men to kidnap a suspected cellphone thief in Bulawayo.
Gorden Dliwayo 34, Gift Munhungowarwa 24, Antony Gwapedza 28 and Lydia Mpofu 35 all from New Magwegwe confronted Mr Blessed Muninga in the city centre and bundled him into the boot of their car, gangster movie style.
They appeared before the Bulawayo Western Commonage Magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze facing charges of kidnapping and assault, and were remanded in custody to 15 November.
They allegedly committed the crime sometime in October.
Presenting the case for the State, prosecutor Ms Melisa Dube said the four accused drove to town and dragged Mr Muninga into their car boot.
“On the day in question, Muninga was in the city centre when the four accused approached him and took him by force into their car boot,” said Ms Dube.
The court heard that they drove to New Magwegwe to one of the accused houses, with Mr Muninga begging for mercy in the trunk, where they punched and slapped the complainant.
“After that, hat they put Muninga back in the boot and drove to Mpofu’s house. Upon reaching there they removed Muninga from the car boot and started assaulting him again,” said Ms Dube.
“At Mpofu’s house they confronted me saying that I stole Munhungowarwa’s phone and I should direct them to where I stay, ” said Mr Muninga in court.
The court was told that when the four accused arrived at Mr Muninga’s house they failed to find the stolen phone.
Mr Muninga sustained bruises as a result of the assault.
