HARARE Province Division 2A and 2B vice-chairman Robert Tembo has hailed the Champion of Champions football tournament they hosted for the two teams which gained promotion into the ZIFA Northen Region Division One League.

The regions work as feeder to the ZIFA Northern Region Division One and this year they had Herentals and Beta Bricks in Division One.

The Champion of Champions tournament was held last Saturday at Gwanzura.

The tournament saw Herentals Academy, which was promoted from Division 2A, clashing with Beta Bricks, who won the Division 2B ticket.

Herentals Academy, under the guidance of Paul Benza, came out victorious 5-4 after a penalty shootout as the two teams had finished the match goalless.

“We don’t want a situation where our teams just go into Division One and return to us and so we prepare them for the tough league.

“There was competitive football as no team wanted to lose the match.

”We hope they will emulate Mufakose United and Harare City Cubs who are doing relatively well in the Northern Region and have since managed to avoid relegation.

“It is so disheartening to have a team you deem the best in your league go to a higher level and fail to compete.

“As a developmental league we expect the teams to go and introduce some youngsters who should be a threat to any team and that is what we witnessed with Herentals coming in with several young players,” said Tembo.
