ZIMBABWE junior tennis players put on an impressive display at the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Under-14 Leg 1 tournament in Madagascar last week.
Kuzivaishe Chapepa emerged as the biggest winner, bagging two gold medals. Chapepa’s first gold medal was in the girls’ singles match, where she beat Rajaona 6-0, 6-1, and went on to win over A Andriaman 6-0, 6-0.
Later, she paired with Emily George to win gold in the doubles, beating the Malagasy duo of Soandry Raharijaona and Rajaona 6-1, 6-0. Joel Badza and Muchengeti Mazungu won gold in the boys’ doubles. Anotipa Chigundu and Emily George were also awarded medals. Manzungu also took bronze in the boys’ singles. The players were also part of Team Zimbabwe which scooped a number of medals at the CAT Southern African Junior Individual and Teams Championships title in Namibia earlier in January. Tennis Zimbabwe general manager, Kupakwashe Mukurumbira, said they were proud of the players’ achievements. “Our young tennis stars continue to shine on the continental stage. Well done to the players who won medals at the Confederation of African Tennis Under-14 Leg 1 Tournament in Madagascar,” he said. – @NkosieLegend
