Newly formed Afro-fusion group Charllote and The Vibrant Band from Mutare is all set to represent Manicaland province at the finals of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition in Harare this weekend.
Formed in January by Charllote Chibi, the group will compete against top bands from across the country at the Glamis Arena. They will face contenders including Panhimbe Crew (Masvingo), Boom Jazz (Mashonaland West), Kweseka (Matabeleland North), Music 2 Music (Bulawayo), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), Fugees (Matabeleland South), The Outlaws (Harare Metropolitan), The Cousins (Midlands), and Shanty Town (Mashonaland).
Chibi expressed the group’s excitement about representing their community and their province.
“We’re overjoyed and humbled! Winning the provincial competition is a dream come true for us. It validates our hard work, dedication, and passion for sharing Afro-fusion music with the world. This victory is about the entire band’s family – our fans, friends, and community who’ve supported us. We’re grateful for this opportunity to represent Manicaland on a bigger stage.”
The group has big plans for the future, including new music releases. “Fans can expect fresh singles, an EP, and possibly a full album as we continue exploring and growing in Afro-fusion sounds. We’re also planning a tour, performing at festivals, concerts, and cultural events across Manicaland and potentially other regions,” Chibi added.
The group’s mission extends beyond just music.
“We aim to inspire youth and families through Afro-Vibes. We’re planning music workshops, mentorship programmes, and concerts that empower underpriviledged youth and foster community engagement. Our ultimate goal is to record our first album, ‘Charllote’s Harmony’,” said Chibi.
The group is committed to using its platform to inspire the next generation of musicians.
“This is just the beginning; we’re determined to take Vibrant Band to new heights, both nationally and globally,” said the band members.
The band’s lineup includes Charllote Chibi (founder and lead vocalist), Tendai Karaga (keyboardist), Delvin Zambuko (bass guitarist), Anotidaishe Gezana (drummer), Mazvita Sithole (backing vocalist), Tashinga Laimani (backing vocalist), and Promise Munjoma (percussionist).
