‘Chevrons will give everything in T20I’ The Chevrons

AFTER suffering a whitewash in the three-match one-day international series that ended in Paarl on Saturday, Zimbabwe will be hoping to throw the first punch in the Twenty20 International which gets underway in East London tomorrow.

Despite losing all the three ODIs, the Chevrons put up an improved show in the final ODI at Boland Park in Paarl on Saturday, posting 228, their highest score in the series. In batsmen friendly conditions, left-hander Sean Williams top scored with 69, the only Zimbabwean to pass 50 during the series. His 73-run fourth-wicket stand with Brendan Taylor was also the highest for the visitors throughout the contest.

The Zimbabwean bowlers took six wickets on the night in yet another brilliant display, an indication that had the batsmen played their part, maybe the outcome could have been different.

With focus shifting to the shorter, fast paced and more exciting version of the game, Williams said they wanted to take the lead in three-match series by winning the first T20I at Buffalo Park tomorrow.

The all-rounder believes they have nothing to lose but a lot to benefit from the three matches against the Proteas.

“I think we’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. It’s going to be up to us to land the first punch in the T20s and give everything,” Williams said.
Craig Ervine, Donald Tiripano, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Richard Ngarava and Ryan Murray headed home after the ODIs.

They have been replaced by Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Tarisai Musakanda, Christopher Mpofu, Neville Madziva and Tendai Chisoro.

The Chevrons arrived in East London yesterday and will hold their training session at the match venue this afternoon.
