working to destabilise the country, Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said this during a briefing of 79 officers leaving Zimbabwe for United Nations peacekeeping duties.
He also de-briefed 38 officers who returned from similar assignments.
Of the 69 officers leaving for UN duties, six are leaving for Liberia, 13 for East Timor and 50 for Darfur in Sudan.
The 38 returning officers comprise 36 from East Timor and two from Sudan.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said: “As police officers, the Constitution leads us, (and we) remain with our heart and soul deeply rooted in the love of our country and in readiness to defend our country and our people at all costs.
“It is of utmost importance that we treat and interact with the people we serve with respect, honour and esteem worthy of them.”
He said as the ZRP’s success story on external peacekeeping operations continues to unfold and be retold, it was important to underline consistency and persistence in upholding professional conduct.
Comm-Gen Chihuri urged the outgoing officers to uphold professionalism ethics.
“In this regard, the organisation does not brook any excitable behaviours which will deviate from this pattern of good work that has been consistently chiselled by other members and officers over time.
“I therefore wish to urge you to uphold the characteristic good name of the Zimbabwe Republic Police which is inevitably intertwined with that of the nation during your tour of duty in Liberia, East Timor and Darfur.
“Your identity as a Zimbabwean is not up for auction and can never be,” said the Commissioner.
