THE festive spirit is in full swing as the anticipated, “Christmas in Matobo Carol Concert” kicks off tomorrow at Ebenezer in Matopos.
Now in its second year, this vibrant community event is set to be a heart-warming celebration of music, togetherness, and the joy of the holiday season.
Organised by a passionate team led by Tariro “Tariro NeGitare” Chaniwo, the concert features four talented Bulawayo female songwriters – Vuyo Brown, Zarae, Nompumelelo Chitewe, and Gugu Sibanda – who have composed original carols specifically for this occasion.
These artistes have been actively working with local schools, teaching their compositions to students, who will join them on stage to perform these delightful tunes.
In an interview, Tariro NeGitare expressed the significance of the concert for the local community.
“The Christmas in Matobo Carol Concert holds profound significance as it serves as a unifying event that brings people together during the festive season. It fosters a sense of belonging and community spirit, allowing residents to celebrate their cultural heritage and share in the joy of the season,” she stated.
Beyond celebrating local talent, the concert also emphasises community collaboration and engagement.
Tariro NeGitare highlighted how the event serves as a platform for showcasing local musicians and artistes, allowing them to gain exposure and nurture their creativity.
“By highlighting their skills, we inspire others in the community. Additionally, the concert attracts visitors from outside the region, boosting local tourism and supporting nearby businesses,” she explained.
The contributions of various partners, including Eagle Learning, Ebenezer, Hamara, Mr Sinkwa, KuKhanya, and Magitare Africa, have been instrumental in making this event a reality.
She expressed immense gratitude for their support, noting that such collaboration is vital for the concert’s success.
As the concert unfolds, hopes are high for its impact and legacy.
Tariro NeGitare envisions the event becoming an annual tradition that continuously strengthens community bonds and promotes local culture.
“I aspire for the concert to leave a lasting legacy of collaboration among local artistes, increased tourism, and a greater understanding of the cultural richness of Matobo. Ultimately, I want it to be a source of joy and pride for the community,” she shared.
Reflecting on lessons learned from the inaugural concert, she emphasised the importance of community involvement in planning and executing such events.
Engaging local stakeholders and gathering feedback proved essential for understanding community needs and preferences.
She also noted the necessity of careful planning and adaptability to navigate the logistics of organising a large-scale event.
As residents of Matobo gather to celebrate at the “Christmas in Matobo Carol Concert,” the air will be filled with joy, music, and a renewed sense of community spirit.
This event not only marks the beginning of the festive season but also serves as a reminder of the power of unity and creativity in bringing people together.
