CHRONICLE Business Editor, Prosper Ndlovu, has scooped the first prize in the 2022 Sadc Media Awards Competition (print category) in recognition of outstanding journalistic work, which contributes to the development of the 16-member bloc and promotes achievement of regional integration goals.

He was announced winner in the print category, alongside other winners from radio, television and photojournalism categories by the Sadc Secretariat yesterday at the Official Opening Ceremony of the Sadc Heads of State and Governments Summit that is underway in Kinshasa, DRC.

President Mnangagwa is among the regional leaders in attendance.

Ndlovu’s winning article titled: “Putting human security at the centre of sustainable regional peace and security”, interrogates the region’s peace and security challenges and how these are influenced by the prevailing human security gaps, which demand urgent attention.

Having scooped the top prize in 2020, Ndlovu said the media plays a key role in enhancing meaningful development of the region and applauded Sadc for honouring outstanding media coverage.

“The transformation of Sadc and Africa as a whole would not be complete without the critical role of the Fourth Estate. It’s a huge honour in that regard, that Sadc recognises our work as journalists and for this reason I am excited,” he said in an interview.

“This is not only inspiring to the team I work with but also shows our determined efforts as the media to make our region a better place for all, including ensuring that the dream of founding fathers, that of a regionally integrated Africa, are achieved in our lifetime.”

The first winner in each category receives a cash prize and a certificate.

The annual regional awards competitions are open to journalists from the Sadc member States. Last week Ndlovu also received a second runner-up prize in the 2022 Pan-African Reinsurance Journalism and Media Awards.
