COMMENT: Innovation can bust illegal sanctions

AS our country forges ahead towards achieving the goals of Vision 2030, we must embrace innovation to attain sustainable development.

Our country is endowed with abundant natural resources that can be harnessed for economic growth. Innovation and entrepreneurship are critical in unlocking the potential of these resources and creating value for our economy.

However, we face a major challenge in the form of illegal sanctions imposed by the United States and its Western allies. These sanctions have negatively impacted the economy and hindered progress towards achieving Vision 2030. The fight against these illegal sanctions requires the collective efforts of all Zimbabweans, from the Government to citizens.

And in this fight, the youth must be at the forefront, not only for the sake of the country but also for their future.

The youth represent the future of Zimbabwe, and their participation in the development of the country is paramount. The youth have the energy, zeal, and creativity needed to come up with new ideas and solutions that can drive the country towards its goals.

Innovation and entrepreneurship can play a significant role in this fight against illegal sanctions. With the right support, the youth can tap into the vast opportunities available in Zimbabwe to start businesses and create jobs.

One way of supporting entrepreneurship is by promoting the use of domestic resources. We have vast natural resources, including minerals, agricultural land, and wildlife. Currently, most of these resources are exported raw, denying the country the opportunity to add value and create jobs. By encouraging local processing of these resources, we can create more value and jobs for our citizens.

For instance, our agricultural sector has the potential to create millions of jobs for citizens. The sector contributes a significant portion to the country’s GDP. However, most of the products are exported raw without any value-addition. By promoting agro-processing, we can create more jobs and increase export earnings.

Another area where innovation can spur growth is in the mining sector. Our country is endowed with vast mineral resources, including gold, platinum, and diamonds. However, most of these minerals are exported as raw materials without any value-addition. By promoting local beneficiation of these minerals, we can create more jobs and add value to exports.

We must embrace innovation and entrepreneurship to achieve the goals of Vision 2030. We must also fight the illegal sanctions imposed by the West, which have impeded progress towards achieving these goals.

The youth must be at the forefront of this fight, using their creativity and energy to come up with new ideas and solutions, driving the country towards sustainable development. We all have a role to play in achieving the vision for our country.
