SEVENTY-nine people succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday as the country recorded 2 050 new cases in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.

The country has so far recorded 99 944 cases, 3 173 deaths and 67 827 recoveries. The national recovery rate stands at 67 percent with active cases going up to 28 944.

Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West recorded 13 deaths each followed by Bulawayo and Harare which had 12 deaths each. Midlands recorded 10 deaths while eight people succumbed to Covid-19 in Matabeleland South. Seven people died of Covid-19 in Manicaland with Mashonaland Central recording three deaths. Matabeleland North recorded the least number with one death having been recorded in the province.

All the cases are local transmissions.

The vaccination programme is continuing countrywide with 1 491 493 people having received the first dose while 687 216 people got the second jab.

A total of 34 151 people received their first jab yesterday and 7 156 their second. The seven-day rolling average for new cases fell to 2 030 yesterday from 2 039.

As of July 25, 2021 at 3PM, there were 910 people were hospitalised with 119 new admissions. Thirty-eight people were admitted in intensive care units (ICU) while 493 had mild to moderate symptoms. Eighty-nine patients had severe symptoms while 290 were asymptomatic.

Harare recorded the highest number of 497 cases following by Mashonaland East with 312 cases. Matabeleland South had 234 cases while Manicaland had 208 cases.

Mashonaland West recorded 186 cases while Masvingo had 141 new cases. Midlands recorded 136 new cases while Matabeleland North recorded 128 cases. Bulawayo recorded the least number with 99 cases, which all emanated from the city’s hotspots.

“As of July, 26, 2021, Zimbabwe, has now recorded 99 944 confirmed cases, 67 827 recoveries and 3 173 deaths,” reads the statement.
