ANESU Walter Gonyora (18) wanted to be a social scientist, but died in a traffic accident near the ZITF grounds before he could sit for his Advanced Level Zimsec public examinations.

A brilliant pupil at Eastview High School in Mahatshula suburb, Anesu’s father is devastated, more so now that his son’s classmates are writing their examinations.

The pain extended to Anesu’s school, forcing Zimsec to send a team to counsel pupils.

Anesu died on the spot three weeks ago in an accident involving a Nissan Teana and a Mater Dei Hospital staff bus.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the teenager was trapped in the car which veered from its lane resulting in an accident with the bus that was coming from the opposite direction.

The bus hit the left side of the car where the deceased was seated in the front seat and the boy was trapped inside.

“The Nissan Teana driver is being charged for reckless driving and the case is still under investigation,” she said.

“I urge the members of the public to be conscious of the road and to pay attention to the rules and regulations of the road.”

The father of the deceased Mr John Gonyora said even though his child died three weeks ago, the pain is still unbearable.

He appealed to anyone who was at the scene when the accident happened to come forward as he is still in confusion about what exactly happened. Mr Gonyora can be reached on 0777137362.

“I was looking forward to him succeeding in his examinations and becoming a social scientist as per his wish. However, I’m so devastated about the incident especially when other kids are in the process of writing the same examinations that he was supposed to write,” he said.

He said he had two children and the late Anesu was the second born. The deceased was doing commercials at Eastview High as his aim was to outdo his brother who graduated from Nust last year.

“I commend Eastview High School for partaking in the burial of my child and helping in all ways; by giving the school bus for the burial day, their presence throughout the funeral and monetary help,” he said.

He also commended Zimsec for sending psychologists to Eastview High School to give counselling services to the other remaining students who are writing the examinations following his child’s death.

Mater Dei Hospital

Mr Gonyora said he was disappointed that Mater Dei Hospital never bothered to say sorry to him following his son’s death.

“I’m resident in Bradfield suburb. Each time I see their bus moving around and their staff members the pain comes back,” he said.–@NomqheleC
