NEWLY Elected Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu is set to be sworn into office today, Monday 27 November.
The ceremony has been slated for 3:30 pm at the Council Chambers.
Cllr Ndlovu replaced former Deputy Mayor Donaldson Mabutho who was among the 12 councillors that were recalled by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Last week, Cllr Ndlovu garnered 13 votes beating Cllr Mthokozisi Mahlangu of Ward 3 who got 12 votes following a second round of voting in the Deputy Mayor race.
Four councillors had participated in the first round with Cllrs Ndlovu and Mahlangu being tied at 10 votes each while Cllrs Ntombizodwa Khumalo and Melisa Mabeza got three and two votes respectively.
Upon his appointment, Cllr Ndlovu emphasised the importance of the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) addressing service delivery concerns.
“The top priorities are cleaning the city and ensuring sufficient water for the residents of Bulawayo.
“The cost should not be a determining factor when it comes to providing water, as it is an essential need,”
‘The upgrading of roads and the sewer system would require additional funding,” he said.
