Chicken Inn 1-1 Ngezi Platinum

FORMER Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Ngezi Platinum Stars were held to a stalemate by Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

With Chicken Inn asking a lot of questions to the Ngezi rearguard, they were duly rewarded with a goal after tiny Elshamar Farasi unleashed a wonder striker that beat Nelson Chadya all systems out in the 44th minute.

Farasi, a former Bulawayo City and Highlanders midfielder, had got to the end of an Arthur Chirinda feed inside the Ngezi Platinum 18-yard box.

Seconds later, Ngezi’s Talent Chamboko – their customary goalscorer – levelled matters after the Gamecocks were found in sixes and sevens at the back.

With two games before the curtsain comes down on the 2024 season, Ngezi are now on 48 points.

Yesterday’s draw took the Gamecocks’ points tally to 42, a massive 24 behind newly croned champions Simba Bhora who reached an inaccessible 66 points by edging relegated Arenel Rovers 1-0 at Luveve Stadium.

“It was an exciting game by both teams. We all played well. We had good ball possession and with luck smiling on us we could have beaten Chicken Inn.

“We just needed to be accurate in front of goal and I believe if we had employed soft basic defensive tactics, we could have prevented their goal.

“However, soon after the goal we conceded our response was good, especially from Chamboko (Talent), who made the mistake that resulted in us conceding.

“It is not easy to collect a point against Chicken Inn because they have a strong side and they’re still building something,” said Ngezi Platinum Stars assistant coach Kumbirayi Mutiwekuziva.

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas said: “I think it was a good result for us, we had our chances, they had theirs but it ended up as a draw. It’s unfortunate we went to sleep after scoring that goal. We can do better.”
