DJ Maphorisa defends Samthing Soweto’s removal amidst Amapiano song controversy

Amapiano fans were up in arms on social media on Tuesday after the highly anticipated song Amalanga Awafani was finally released.
The song by Mas Musiq, DJ Maphorisa, and Samthing Soweto hit streaming services, but fans quickly noticed a discrepancy. Samthing Soweto was not credited for his vocals on the song.
This sparked widespread outrage, with many social media users encouraging others to report the discrepancy.
DJ Maphorisa took to Instagram Live to clear the air. He says Samthing Soweto was fighting them over the rights, so they decided to remove him and deal with it later.
“You (Samthing Soweto) just sabotaged yourself just because you are greedy and want to own all the masters of the songs.”
“His album, Isphithiphiti, was recorded in my house and I gave him a chance. Stop sabotaging us and making us look bad when Mas Musiq gave you a chance when we could not handle your shit.
“Why we don’t (have a) relationship with him (Samthing Soweto). It’s because of his attitude and not meeting the standard . . . we have a problem of sharing — he wants to take everything.”
Maphorisa added: “I’ve saved this culture of South African music, South African music is driven by this m** f***, I’ve saved a lot of things, I have crawled for you guys,” he said on Instagram.
“Don’t make me a bad person… Everyone wants to see me down because I’m the guy, I have made this sh** happen, Amapiano is in Africa… Do you see what I have done for this country.
“You help people and they betray you, but I am still here, still standing and still strong,” said Maphorisa.
The DJ has been accused by other artistes, including Amapiano vocalist, Sir Trill, of not being adequately paid despite being featured prominently in some of Maphorisa’s chart-topping songs.
Samthing Soweto has yet to publicly speak on the matter, but he did publish a tweet with a broken heart on Tuesday morning. – Primediaplus/IOL
