POET Dr Gasolo and his coordinating team have announced the postponement of the Dr Gasolo Long Walk to Success, originally scheduled to be held as a one-person walk event from August 8 to 10, 2024, from Ematshetsheni via Gwanda to Bulawayo.

In a statement, one of the organisers of the walkathon, Desmond Ntini, said they have engaged various stakeholders who saw it fit to postpone the walk.

“In light of the ongoing SADC event being held in our country, as well as advice from the regulating authorities, Team Gasolo has decided to postpone the walk to comply with the advice and security concerns presented. The walk sought to strengthen awareness efforts on the dangers and challenges posed by drug abuse, and the stigma and discrimination faced by those dealing with mental health issues. “Having spent considerable time preparing for the walk, we’re genuinely saddened and disappointed that we have to move it to a later date,” said Ntini.

“We want to thank and sincerely apologise to all our sponsors, partners, and all Dr Gasolo supporters for any inconvenience this may cause. We kindly ask for your understanding while the new date is being communicated. We’ll be working with all our partners and sponsors to finalise the next walk details and will share more information at the earliest,” he added.

The walkathon serves as a platform to connect the arts industry with the business community, fostering unity among artistes and promoting their growth within the region.
