The annual Dzimbahwe Arts Festival organised by the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) that was slated for today in Masvingo has been postponed to a later date.

In a statement, GZU director of information and public relations Anderson Chipatiso said the festival of arts and culture was postponed due to circumstances beyond the university’s control. He said a new date for the festival that has become a key feature on the university’s calendar would be announced in due course.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we unfortunately have to postpone the 11th edition of the Dzimbahwe Arts and Culture Festival slated for 20 to 22 September. We apologise for any inconvenience that the postponement may have caused,” said Chipatiso in a statement.

Zimdancehall artistes as well as Sulumani Chimbetu were billed to perform at the three-day fete.

In the past, the festival has attracted arts gurus like Cont Mhlanga, Oliver Mtukudzi, Ba’Shupi and academics from other universities.

The festival was introduced by the university’s Simon Muzenda School of Arts, Culture and Heritage Studies to provide a platform to nurture and develop talent within the Masvingo community. It is aimed at promoting the university’s mandate of arts, culture and heritage. –@walterbmswazie2
