ECONOMIC Freedom Fighters (EFF) Zimbabwe leader Mr Innocent Ndibali yesterday said the country is on course to achieve Vision 2030 through economic reforms being implemented by the Second Republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

In an interview, Mr Ndibali revealed that the EFF recently elected new leadership and the executive resolved to back President Mnangagwa as his Government was scoring victories in all development aspects.

“This leadership is there to see through and achieve economic freedom in our lifetime and protect the country’s constitution working with the current leadership of the State. A respect to and for our constitution by everyone is a must, is non-negotiable and as EFF Zimbabwe we will fight through and through for a better Zimbabwe and supporting all sound policies implemented by the Government as long as they are within the frameworks of our constitution. Our leadership commits to continue backing all pro-people efforts pioneered by the Government.

“It is with great pleasure to announce that we are here to defend what is correct for our country. We also believe that the attainment of an upper middle-income economy by 2030 is a correct path for our people. So as EFF, fighting for economic emancipation, we fully support such efforts. We have realised that President ED Mnangagwa is a man of action over talking, we appeal that he keeps this spirit.

“We are impressed and pleased with the progress that our Zimbabwean Government is making. When the State President spelt out what he termed Vision 2030 for the country, we gave ourselves time to study and follow what he is aiming to achieve. We are so happy on the direction taken on peace and reconciliation efforts, agriculture, opening of women’s bank, introduction of our own currency, international community re-engagement, auditing of farms,” he said.

The EFF is also impressed by Government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation programme, which seeks to repair more than 26 000km of Zimbabwe’s road network this year.

Mr Ndibali said: “The Government set timelines for this year, saying that 840km of roads across the country will be rehabilitated and reconstructed, while 8 340km will be re-gravelled with 17 093km of road network set to be regarded. We see this as a major milestone and we are happy that evidence is there on ground some roads are complete and we see work done across provinces.

“We are happy as well that our people are safe when it comes to food security. Thanks to the Government pioneered Pfumvudza programme. We appreciate the support that the Government gave to the farmers across the country.”

Mr Ndibali commended President Mnangagwa for his determination to curb corruption and urged him to press on with his war on dishonest dealings.

“We encourage the President to press more on issues to do with corruption. Criminals must be jailed without fear. There is too much corruption in both private and public sectors. We need the President to push more as well in that front, once we curb corruption the country will grow fast. We want to see ZACC and SACU delivering on their mandate,” he said.

While some political parties have accused the Government of closing the political space, Mr Ndibali praised President Mnangagwa for opening the political space, a development that has seen Zimbabweans being allowed to express their political views without harassment.

“Let us recall that the President when he came to power, he signed the NPRC (National Peace and Reconciliation Commission) Bill. The country needed such direction and now we want the President to work with relevant stakeholders in making sure that the NPRC Bill achieves its goals.

“We have also taken note of opening of political space, people of various backgrounds are allowed to practice their political activities and that is a correct move. As the opposition, we held our Congress in Nkayi on May 29, 2021 without any problems. We also seconded the creation of POLAD. That is the only way we can share ideas collectively as opposition parties without anyone being given a programme of action by certain embassies seeking to run Zimbabwe indirectly.

“We are also pleased that the President refused manipulation by arrogant Nelson Chamisa, who wanted to hijack State power like he did at Morgan Tsvangirai’s funeral, working with his G40 masters. The President should remain resolute in treating all opposition equal and not allow someone being pushed by his puppeteers to disrupt his goal of achieving Vision 2030 for our people,” he said.

“We are also happy that international re-engagement remains on course despite persistent hostility by the West and its allies. President Mnangagwa has demonstrated maturity on that front, we urge him to continue engaging them as we need partners to grow. His re-engagement efforts are promoting the Government’s agenda of economic reform that we hope will bring the desperately needed external finance potentially available from international financial institutions and global investors to help normalise our challenges as a country.”
