FORMER Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (Zipra) combatants and their beneficiaries have been urged to remain patient as they await the imminent distribution of shared assets under Nitram Properties.
Speaking on the matter in a Press conference, Nitram Properties board chairperson, Cde Volta Ekem Moyo, reassured members that the long-standing issue of property distribution is nearing resolution, emphasising transparency and fairness in the process.
Cde Moyo acknowledged that some ex-combatants have grown impatient over delays in distributing the properties.
However, he reassured them that Nitram Properties is committed to honouring their sacrifices and contributions during the liberation struggle.
Amidst rumours and accusations that some properties had been sold, Cde Moyo firmly denied these claims, describing them as attempts by detractors to sow discord among the beneficiaries.
He stressed that all properties are legally protected by title deeds and caveats, making any unauthorised sale impossible.
“With meticulous planning and a focus on inclusivity, we aim to ensure that each member is accurately accounted for and duly rewarded. There is no grain of truth whatsoever in the accusations that some properties have been sold,” he said, adding that anyone found attempting to sell these properties would face legal consequences.
The properties, located across various regions in Zimbabwe, include both residential homes and commercial spaces, which are expected to provide sustainable livelihoods and economic stability for Zipra veterans and their families.
These properties are poised to provide sustainable livelihoods and economic stability to the beneficiaries,” said Cde Moyo.
He also addressed concerns surrounding the Nijo farm in Harare, currently under the management of Northgate Company, expressing confidence that President Mnangagwa would intervene to ensure the return of all Nitram Properties.
Cde Moyo reiterated that the Second Republic, under President Mnangagwa, remains committed to ensuring the fair distribution of these assets. Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has been appointed to oversee the process.
Nitram Properties has taken the necessary steps to ensure that the allocation process is conducted fairly, with meticulous planning and inclusivity.
This marks a significant milestone in recognising the contributions of Zipra veterans during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
“The President is a man of his word and we are looking forward to the properties being distributed,” said Cde Moyo.
More than 100 properties have already been identified and documented, with 10 000 registered members under the organisation. Cde Moyo reassured beneficiaries that the process is now in its final stages and asked for continued patience.
The matter gained momentum last year when hundreds of ex-Zipra combatants from across Zimbabwe convened in Bulawayo to select a 13-member committee tasked with compiling a list of the properties and engaging the Government.
The meeting, led by Rtd Col Dube as instructed by VP Mohadi, resulted in the formation of a committee chaired by Cde Moyo, with other key members from different provinces. Cde Queen Maligwa from Matabeleland North is the vice-chairperson while Cde Buster Magwizi from Mashonaland West is the information and publicity secretary.
Cde Moyo emphasised that when the properties are returned, a board will be formed to discuss their distribution. Provisions will be made to ensure that the beneficiaries of deceased combatants are represented by their widows or children.
