Final cast for Stitsha chosen

The cast is a mixture of new and seasoned performing artistes.

Nomathamsanqa Mkhwananzi from Iyasa landed the lead role of Thuli and Zenzo Nyathi, popularly known as Mzambane from Amakorokoza, will play Mopho, Thuli’s brother.

A new actor, Trevor Kanema, will play Thuli’s boyfriend, Mbazo and seasoned actor Memory Kumbota will play Thuli’s father with Duduzile Sibanda playing her mother.

In a telephone interview yesterday, director of Qhube Productions, the production managers of the play, Sihlangu Dlodlo, said the rehearsals began on a high note and the play promises to be one to remember.

He, however, said they had to cut down the hours for rehearsals because of monetary constraints.

“We had to cut down the hours of rehearsals to two, from 3pm to 5pm. We had planned to have rehearsals from 8am to 5pm but because we cannot provide lunch for them we had to cut rehearsal time,” said Dlodlo.

He said each actor needed $15 per week that would cover their lunches and transport.

“We appeal to all well-wishers to support the actors. I have said before we are working on a zero budget. We need $15 a week per actor to cover lunch and transport. Even if someone says they will cover one actor it is fine we will accept that,” said Dlodlo.

He said there were three directors that were working with the artistes in the categories namely choreography, drumming and music.

“We have Lewis Ndlovu in drumming, Matesu Dube in choreography and Eldon Zulu in music as the three directors for the play.

“On Tuesday, while the actors were looking at the script, they were also doing the dances. Stitsha, as its name suggests, is a mixture of dance, song and different genres of music,” said Dlodlo.

He said everything was on schedule and the premiere would be at the beginning of August at Amakhosi Cultural Centre.

The other actors in the play are Heather Dube, Jabulani Ndiweni, Japhet Mlauzi, Micacain Dube and Calorine Magwiro.

Stitsha is a play written by Cont Mhlanga about a woman’s struggle to be recognised and listened to when she wants to produce a play.

However, she faces stiff resistance from her father who wants her to be a secretary and get married.
