FIRST Lady Doctor Amai Grace Mugabe will open this year’s Zimbabwe National Youth Games set to be held in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province next month.

The Games will run from August 13-21.

Sports and Recreation Commission acting director general Joseph Muchechetere said a formal request has been made for the First Lady to be the guest of honour at the 14th edition of the Games which were inaugurated here in Bulawayo in 2003.

“The guest of honour is the preserve of the local organising committee in consultation with the SRC and that has been done. As SRC we have since advised the Minister of Sport and Recreation who will in turn formally request the First Lady as per protocol,” said Muchechetere.

The acting director general said in as far as the state of preparedness by Chinhoyi was concerned, the commission was happy with what is taking place on the ground.

“I can safely say Chinhoyi is ready to host the Zimbabwe National Youth Games 2016, a lot of work has been done with the Provincial Affairs Minister Faber Chidarikire taking critical leadership role thereby making the Loc’s work much easier. He has opened doors to all key government and political offices for the committee,” said Muchechetere.

Minister Chidarikire officially launched the games at the Chinhoyi University of Technology last Friday.

A majority of provinces will be getting into camp next week after the closure of schools so as to intensify their preparations.

Bulawayo will be at Eveline High School while Matabeleland North will use Townsend High School as their camping base.
