MDC chairman of the council of elders Fletcher Dulini Ncube has died. Ncube died yesterday at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after a long illnes.
Party spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube confirmed Ncube’s death saying it was a huge blow to their party. Ncube was one of the founding members of the united MDC.

When Chronicle visited Ncube’s house in Hillside yesterday evening, his wife and one of his three sons, Sandi, were still at the hospital doing paperwork so that he is sent to the mortuary.

“This is a very dark hour, we are saddened by the passing of a great leader who was there at the formation of MDC,” said Dube.
He said Ncube, a former treasurer-general in the united MDC before the 2005 split, participated in the struggle for independence “and the total democratisation of Zimbabwe. We are enveloped in a cloud of darkness.”

The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in due course.
Ncube, a former Lobengula legislator along MDC activists Remember Moyo, Khethani Sibanda, Nicholas Masera, Army Zulu, and Sazini Mpofu, were arrested in 2002 for allegedly killing Bulawayo Provincial Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) chairperson and national hero Cain Nkala.

They were later acquitted of the charges.
Mourners are gathered at number 7 Oxford Road Hillsde.
