Kwekwe mining company, Gold Metal Investments (GMI) has donated blankets to three institutions as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Owned by gold magnet Shepherd Chahwanda Magodora, who started off as an artisanal miner before transforming his ventures into a force to reckon with in the mining industry, GMI has launched the ‘giving back to the community’ initiative which has already benefited some institutions in Kwekwe.

Kwekwe Prisons was one of the first beneficiaries after receiving groceries and blankets courtesy of the company.

Today, the company handed over 50 blankets each to Kwekwe General Hospital, Mbuya Saunyama orphanage and Maryyward Children’s home in Amaveni.

Representing the company, Mr Everisto Mutema said this was part of the company’s appreciation to the community in which they live.

“As our company continues to grow, we saw it fit to remember the support of the community through donating to the vulnerable members of the community because we want to grow together with them in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s thrust of leaving no one and no place behind. This is only the beginning of bigger things to come as we will continue to partner with a number of institutions and we will embark on community development projects,” said Mutema.

Already, GMI adopted a male patients’ wards which they refurbished and modernised.

Acting Kwekwe General Medical Superintendent, Dr Bruce Mhondiwa said the donation could not have come at a better time.

“The donation came at the right time as we are still in the middle of the winter season. Our patients did not have enough blankets as most patients were now bringing their own but with this gesture, we are grateful to GMI for the timely boost as we can now divert attention to other things that are not there,” he said.
