Grade Seven pass rate improves

The results were released on Monday.
“At the moment we have not yet analysed the results in-depth, but according to what I saw at face value the results are likely to be better compared to last year,” said Bulawayo PED Mr Dan Moyo.

He said they would conclude the provincial analysis in a week’s time.
Mr Moyo said at the moment, schools in his province were still analysing the results at district level.
“After that they would be taken to my office for the provincial analysis and that process can take about a week or so,” he said.

His Matabeleland North counterpart, Mrs Boithatelo Mnguni, said her province had recorded fewer cases of schools getting a zero percent pass rate. “This year around we are very happy because we have less schools recording a zero percent pass rate. It was causing us some sleepless nights because it is not possible for the whole school not to receive even a single pass,” she said.
She said there were improvements on Zimsec’s part, as they had given the provincial offices copy print outs of the results.

“Now we are able to analyse the results from the office while the schools also do their own analysis. In the previous years we were forced to wait for the schools to finish therefore delaying the whole process,” said Mrs Mnguni.

Matabeleland South PED Mr Tumisang Thabela said there were high chances that the provincial pass rate could have slumped.
“I don’t think we have quality passes because judging from the results of the two schools I have seen, things are not looking good, but we will see what the outcome is as soon as we finish analysing the results,” said Mrs Thabela.
