The league runs till December and Highlanders are now preparing for the third leg of the season which is the final part of the tournament.

The team last won the BVA championship in 2020 and last year they did not play because of covid-19.

Winning the provincial league title would guarantee them a place in the volleyball national premier league.

The premier league takes one team from each province and the top four from the previous competition have automatic qualification.

Speaking to Chronicle Sports, Highlanders Volleyball Club CEO Wellington Hwata is confident that his team has what it takes to go all the way and be crowned champions, despite facing tense competition.

“We have good players at the moment, if we train hard, we can make it,” said Hwata.
The club is sitting on top of the league standings after the completion of leg one and two which they finished with a clean sweep of all the games they played.

Apart from the provincial league that they are playing in, the club is also competing in the national premier league in which they are eying a top four finish.

A top four finish would guarantee them a place in next year’s Zone Six championship. This is the regional competition where the best teams in Southern Africa compete against each other.

‘We want to be among the top four in the premier league so we can qualify for next year Zone Six championship since they only consider top four teams.

“We are training hard preparing for our next games in Masvingo this coming month end,” said Hwata.

The coming regional competition will be hosted in Zambia in December after completion of the local leagues.
