THE Roman Catholic Church in Hwange has sent a condolence message to the Shana family and postponed a musical event that had been scheduled for this Saturday, following the death of Chief Shana III.

Born Zondani Jonah Neluswi on July 1, 1940, Chief Shana III died at the age of 83 on Sunday while in hospital in Bulawayo.

He will be buried at his homestead on Saturday.

In a condolence message, Bishop of Hwange Diocese, Bishop Raphael Ncube said the Church was indebted to Chief Shana for his support.

“As the Catholic Diocese of Hwange we hereby convey our condolences to the family of Chief Shana of Jambezi who passed on. Though no longer a practicing Catholic, Chief Shana was always very supportive of the Catholic Church programmes and endeavours. My sincere condolences to all the people of his jurisdiction as Chief,” said Bishop Ncube.

The Catholic Church had organised a musical competition for Victoria Falls Deanery at Sacred Heart Mission in Jambezi on Saturday, and the event has been postponed indefinitely in honour of the death of the Chief.

Chief Shana was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Southern Africa.

The Chief is survived by wife, whom he married in 1963, eight children, 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. —@ncubeleon
