A PROSTITUTE from Bulawayo who allegedly looted property worth $1,688 from a senior government official who had failed to pay her for services rendered has told a court she took the goods with the blessings of the official.

Raymond Kuzondishaya Nyandoro, a principal town planning officer in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing stationed at Mhlahlandlela offices in the city, reported to the police that the property had been stolen in a break-in at his house in Bradfield suburb.

An investigating officer in the case on Thursday said Itai Muzambi (25) was arrested after police found her boyfriend Xolani Ncube using a cellphone that was among the stolen property.

Ncube implicated Muzambi and the rest of the stolen property, except 3kg of meat which she had eaten, was recovered.

The IO said there was no evidence of a break-in at the house.

On Wednesday, Magistrate Miss Charity Maphosa heard how Nyandoro — who was not in court on Thursday — invited Muzambi to take anything from his house after he failed to pay her $25 for sex.

She allegedly took a Plasma TV, DVD, laptop, blankets, two cellphones, a comforter, men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, a wrist watch, suitcase, a Kenwood speaker, 3kg of meat and a gas stove including its cables and tanks.

Muzambi is pleading not guilty to unlawful entry and theft.

Magistrate Maphosa remanded her out of custody to August 25 for sentencing.

Muzambi said it was not true that Nyandoro was unaware that she took his property.

“That would not have been possible at all. The first thing I did was to take away the blanket that was covering us. There are stairs in his house so obviously he heard me going up and down as I packed what I had collected. Although he had a few drinks, he was not that drunk to the extent of knocking out,” she said.

Muzambi said everything she had taken had been recovered save for the meat.

Nyandoro testified on Wednesday saying he could not remember anything in connection with the case.

“I don’t remember anything that happened that night, your Worship. I suspect that my drink was spiked. I’ve never lost memory like that my whole life. The only thing I remember is leaving the pub where I was drinking with my friends. I’m not sure if I left with her.”
