PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has described the Sadc flag, hoisted alongside Zimbabwe’s national flag and those of sister republics, as “a symbol of the common history and shared future we have as a united and indivisible Sadc region.”
In his speech at the burial of National Hero Cde Makhethi Ndebele- also known by the liberation war moniker Cde Jack Mpofu- at the National Heroes Acre in Harare today, the President highlighted Zimbabwe’s upcoming hosting of the 44th ordinary Sadc Summit of Heads of State and Government, as well as the country’s assumption of the Sadc chairmanship.
He said Zimbabwe, as descendants of Munhumutapa, is “ready to rise and shine as we carry the mantle of our Founding Fathers and forebears.”
President Mnangagwa said there is a need to use the Sadc Summit as an opportunity to “showcase the massive progress we have registered against all odds, in spite of the illegal sanctions imposed on us and climate change.”
He called on Zimbabwe and its Sadc counterparts to “motivate, inspire and share experiences” towards the prosperity and improved quality of life of the people of the region.
The President said Zimbabwe’s vision of becoming a “prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030” can only be achieved through “positive image building” and deepening national cohesion, development, modernisation and industrialisation.
He urged Zimbabweans to draw lessons from the “exemplary life” of the late national hero, Cde Ndebele, to “raise our consciousness and always guard against ruinous as well as predatory prescriptions on our economic and political governance architecture
