After being presented with a fully serviced residential stand for winning the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards People’s Choice Award last year, Msiz’kay has embarked on a mission to raise funds to start building his dream home.

Using the hashtag, #IndluKaMrapper, Msiz’kay is organising a concert that he has dubbed “#Let’sBuildMyHome” to try and raise funds for building materials. He has set May 6 as the day he will stage the concert at a venue yet to be advised.

The People’s Choice Award was sponsored by TCI International, Land Developers and Engineering Contractors who officially handed over the stand in Pumula South to Msiz’kay last month.

The Kulula hitmaker said through this initiative, he wants to show fellow artistes that it is possible for one’s art to be supported.

“The #IndluKaMrapper #LetsBuildMyHome Campaign is an opportunity to help change the narrative about artistes in the city and show people that if you make good music and you’re able to build a strong brand behind your music, anything is possible,” Msiz’kay said.

He said he is reaching out to many players to ensure that the event is well-supported.

“I’m still reaching out to corporates and specific individuals seeking sponsorship towards the build-up of my concert. This initiative is a great step towards inspiring corporates and the public to lend more support to artistes and the arts in the city. It’s also a means of inspiring other artists to become homeowners.”

Preparations for the concert, Msiz’kay said, are shaping up well.

“I’m in talks with our usual partners and looking to continue with previous relationships while working on building new ones.

It feels exciting, but it also feels so surreal in a way. It’s great but hard to believe and I can’t wait to make the dream a reality,” said Msiz’kay.

Apart from winning the People’s Choice Award, Msiz’kay clinched the Song of the Year award with his hit love song, Kulula in which he featured the soulful Bhekiwe. – @millieythandile
