The Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo is set to make a triumphant return this September, promising a vibrant celebration of Zimbabwean arts and culture.

The festival, famed for its diverse programme of events, will showcase a wide range of artistic disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, poetry, visual arts, literature, and film from September 26 to 30.

Nkululeko Nkala, the festival spokesperson said preparations for the event are well underway.

“The preparations are on course. We’re still working on the programming and inviting partners and sponsors to join hands with us. So far, we have secured some of the venues and have done 80 percent of the programme across various genres,” Nkala said.

He said their wish is that the coming edition be better than the previous editions.

“We have lined up several excellent acts that will entertain those who will attend the festival,” Nkala assured people.
Confirmed events thus far include a new event, the Vusa Mkhaya Experience which has been lined up for September 28.

Theatre lovers will also be in for a treat as the programme will offer “a total theatre experience for both the artist and spectator as the festival is about imagining and experiencing life through theatre.”

The festival will spread around venues that include the Bulawayo Theatre, National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, City Hall Car Park, the Academy of Music and the Bulawayo Public Library.

Streets will also be transformed into venues, and open spaces of Bulawayo into a hub of artistic exploration.

Nkala said the upcoming festival which will run under the theme, “Imagine it! Experience it!” is meant to allow creatives to imagine and experience their craft.

The festival which has been running since 2005 has become a staple in the Zimbabwean cultural calendar, attracting both local and international talent. – @TashaMutsiba.
