AWARD-winning gospel songstress Janet Manyowa has been appointed as a board member of the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura).

The appointment comes at a time many people were lobbying the non-governmental revenue collecting society whose mandate is to protect and promote the rights of music composers, authors and publishers in Zimbabwe and internationally, to have new blood in order to be vibrant.

Announcing the appointment through a post on Facebook, Zimura said the fast-risinggospel sensation would be joining the boardthat is chaired by renowned artiste Albert Nyathi and has members that include Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Cde Dingumuzi Phuthi.

Dingumuzi Phuti and Polisile Ncube-Chimhini (Executive Director),” posted Zimura.

In an interview, Manyowa through her manager, Munyaradzi Manyowa who is also her husband said she is elated by the appointment.

The multi-award-winning songstress vowed to work hard in ensuring that the country’s music industry grows successfully and becomes competitive internationally.

“Im grateful to God for having been appointed to the Zimura board. I look forward to meeting my fellow board members, driving conversations and initiatives that encourage the growth and sustenance of our music industry,” said Manyowa.

Zimura was established in 1982 and collects revenue from clients like broadcasters, hotels, airlines, bars and supermarkets etcetera. Over the years, there have been disgruntlements between the association and artistes as they claim to be getting infinite raw deals. @mthabisi_mthire
